- Field 04 – High regions silent questions
I prefer pencils and rather small formats at the moment. The white space is important. It is the areas that remain untouched afterwards that I pay attention to, as if I would be drawing a negative image. And at the same time I mind the line that makes itself way, puts meaning or meaninglessness, creates signs or symbols and gives in in time. The title is important. It extends the drawing beyond the picture carrier. It names the area. Choosing the title gives me (a last) opportunity to calm or confuse or give comfort. It’s a poetic suggestion, a rhythm.
Im Augenblick zeichne ich mit Bleistift und bevorzuge kleine und mittlere Formate. Der Weißraum ist wichtig. Manchmal liegt das meiste Augenmerk auf ihm, auf dem unberührten Rest. Als gestalte man ein Negativ. Manchmal liegt es auf der Linie, die sich Weg bahnt, Bedeutungen oder Bedeutungslosigkeiten platziert, Zeichen hinterlässt, und rechtzeitig Ruhe gibt. Der Titel ist wichtig. Er erweitert die Zeichnung über den Träger hinaus, gibt dem Raum einen Namen. Mit der Wahl des Titels habe ich die Möglichkeit zu beschwichtigen, zu verwirren oder auch zu trösten. Eine poetische Anregung, ein Rhythmus.

Als in den 20er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts das Din Format definiert und festgelegt wurde, hätte wohl noch kaum jemand gedacht, dass diese simple Norm eine so starke Dominanz erlangen würde. Und so wurde es mittlerweile schon fast wieder zu einem kreativen Standard, das Din-Format zu unterwandern und der Norm nicht zu entsprechen. Ob Schulhefte, Ordner, Inkjet-Drucker oder sogar Urkunden — A4 herrscht als Standard vor.
Die Grand Petit Galerie zeigt Arbeiten von Künstler/innen, die das Experiment des Ausbrechens schon hinter sich gebracht haben oder erst gar nicht starten wollen und stattdessen das Vorgegebene analysieren.

In the 1920ies – the international standard A4 has been intruduced. Who would have thought at that time, that a simple norm like this could gain such a high importance within only a few decades. By now it can almost be seen as a creative challenge to break with this regulation and to undermine the norm. No matter if it’s a school book, an inkjet printer, a folder or even high priority documents – A4 remains predominant. For „Everything A4“ we collect works working with/on/for the predetermined A4 format.
